Goal Achieved: Bathurst’s Strategic Play for Wanderers A-League

Amidst economic challenges, last minute change of date and full accommodation capacity, we strategically navigated our way to elevate awareness and conversion for the Women’s Western Sydney Wanderers Liberty A-League match in Bathurst, NSW.

The Project

In partnership with Bathurst Regional Council, our mission was to elevate the game day experience by significantly increasing visibility, awareness, and ticket conversions for the Western Sydney Wanderers match. Leveraging a strategic budget, our team embarked on an agile and targeted digital marketing campaign.

The Client: Bathurst Regional Council Events Team

The Western Sydney Wanderers FC v Canberra United match, was hosted by Bathurst Regional Council and played at Carrington Park, Bathurst.

The match forms part of the Wanderers commitment to the Western NSW region and saw the club deliver benefits to the Bathurst community through a range of school and grassroots programs to drive and support football participation.

The Challenge

With the game unexpectedly rescheduled to a fully booked weekend, the challenge was twofold: quickly mobilise an effective marketing strategy amidst accommodation constraints and do so within tight budget limitations. The urgency for a creative solution was paramount to turn these constraints into a successful event.

The Solution

Our team developed and executed a dynamic 4-week short sprint social media campaign designed to encourage ticket sales. We delivered five key stages:

  • Campaign research, planning and development.
  • Campaign launch and activity driving pre-game targeted awareness and ticket sales.
  • Ongoing monitoring and reviewing pre-game.
  • Final messaging amplification and conversion maximisations.
  • Post game report with future recommendations.

The Result

Beyond Goals: A Historic Turnout for Women’s Football in Bathurst

Achieving a record attendance of 3,873 at the Western Sydney Wanderers Women v Newcastle United Jets match set a new benchmark for the club’s stand-alone women’s games. This milestone, fuelled by our dynamic digital campaign underscored the growing enthusiasm for women’s sports and Bathurst’s communal vibrance.
